Kempower Applauds Federal Funding Boost for Power Grid Resilience

Raleigh, NC – (Friday, August 9, 2024) Kempower, a leading provider of DC charging technology, is encouraged by Tuesday’s announcement of $10.5 billion in federal funding towards the Grid Resilience and Innovation Partnerships (GRIP), established to enhance power grid flexibility and resilience across North America.

The (GRIP) Program established in 2023 as part of the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law, aims to ensure American communities have access to affordable, reliable electricity while improving resilience against extreme weather and climate change.

The announcement was made by U.S. Secretary of Energy Jennifer M. Granholm, North Carolina Governor Roy Cooper, White House Senior Advisor John Podesta, and NC Congresswoman Deborah Ross at Duke Energy in Raleigh, which received $57 million to upgrade a portion of its grid, enhancing capacity for new carbon-free energy projects.

“North Carolina is becoming a global powerhouse for clean energy—and these upgrades will keep the growth coming,” said Secretary Granholm.

This funding means cheaper, cleaner and more reliable electricity for our homes and businesses,” added Governor Cooper.

This program could significantly impact Kempower by providing opportunities for collaboration on projects that modernize the electric grid, integrate renewable energy, and expedite the deployment of EV charging infrastructure which is heavily dependent on utilities.

“The initiatives outlined are pivotal in supporting the local workforce and enhancing infrastructure reliability, which are essential for the advancement of clean energy and the broader electrification of transportation.”

Tomi Ristimäki, CEO of Kempower

At Kempower, we are committed to driving innovation in electric vehicle (EV) charging solutions, and we believe that robust grid infrastructure and a skilled workforce are crucial to achieving a sustainable future.

“We look forward to continuing our work in North Carolina, across the U.S. and Canada, contributing to the growth of the clean energy sector, and supporting the development of resilient and efficient charging networks to accelerate the electrifications of transportation,” said Ristimäki.

This announcement aligns with our mission to accelerate the transition to electric mobility and underscores the importance of public-private collaboration in realizing these goals. We warmly welcome you to join us on this journey.
