Kempower signs global supplier agreement with mining equipment market-leader Epiroc

Kempower has signed a global supplier agreement with Epiroc, a leading productivity and sustainability partner for the mining and infrastructure industries. The deal will see Kempower provide charging equipment and its ChargEye software for electric mining machines to Epiroc, helping the company support its mining customers as they transition towards using battery electric vehicles (BEVs).

The use of electric machines is on the rise in the mining industry because of net-zero targets and the performance and safety benefits they deliver. Electric mining machines reduce CO2 emissions and offer a healthier work environment by improving health and safety for miners. Additionally, they increase production levels by providing higher efficiencies and save costs in areas such as ventilation, fleet maintenance and thermal management.

Epiroc charging products encompass several different fixed and mobile models to ensure that BEVs have the flexibility to charge at any given time or place. The company’s chargers come with a connectivity option that offers several benefits, including allowing customers to easily monitor their charging products remotely through a cloud service. Additionally, the software can also be updated remotely by an Epiroc service technician.

Kempower will supply Epiroc with its Kempower Satellite systems, Kempower Movable chargers and ChargEye software, the latest addition to Epiroc’s wide-reaching portfolio of flexible charging products for mining equipment.

As well as pledging to reach carbon neutrality by 2035, Kempower has committed to producing responsible products, including setting an impressive target of attaining a 99% recyclability rate for all of its EV chargers at the end of their lifetime. Epiroc has also established several sustainability targets in line with the Paris Agreement and the UN 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development. These include halving CO2 emissions from its operations, transportation and the machines it sells by 2030, plus requiring a minimum 50% reduction in CO2 emissions from its suppliers.

We’re thrilled to sign this agreement with Epiroc and launch a long-term cooperation between two leading Nordic companies. We’re ready to grow hand-in-hand with the company and meet its end customers’ increasing demand for electric mining machines. Our new factory, due to open by the end of 2022, will enable us to scale up production by approximately 500%, ensuring we have the products and solutions to fulfil Epiroc’s needs and orders.
