The ultimate challenge for electric bus charging – an arctic mine in Malmberget, Sweden

The challenges of personnel transportation are diverse in a mine. Not to mention in an arctic mine.  The height difference can be up to 1.2 kilometers and the inclinations up to 13 degrees. In addition to a challenging terrain, the freezing temperatures makes a mine a hard environment for buses also. Malmberget is one of the largest iron ore mines in Sweden. The need for buses is huge to transport personnel both above and below the ground. However, using diesel buses the need of ventilation increases thus increasing the energy consumption and costs as well.

Together with Linkker, we tested electric buses and Kempower chargers in the harsh environment of Malmerget. This is just the ideal place for our robust and versatile mobile fast charger, Kempower T-series.
