Kempower and Ava Community Energy Bring Largest Non-Tesla Hub to Northern California
Oakland, CA, Nov. 19, 2025 – Ava Community Energy has opened its first electric vehicle (EV) fast charging station in downtown Oakland, powered by 18 Kempower DC fast chargers. The site, now the largest non-Tesla fast charging station in Northern California, United States marks the launch of Ava’s planned network of up to 15 stations designed to expand equitable access to EV charging.
Located at Oakland City Center West Garage near downtown Oakland, the station brings reliable, high-capacity charging to one of the region’s densest urban areas. With nearly half of Alameda County residents living in rental housing, public fast charging plays a critical role in enabling EV adoption.

Oakland’s 2030 Equitable Climate Action Plan (ECAP) aims to confront climate change by prioritizing frontline communities and expanding equitable access to clean air. A core focus of the plan is ensuring residents have the infrastructure needed to consider electric vehicle adoption, while supporting current EV owners with charging stations that are reliable, accessible, and community centered.
The project was delivered in partnership with San Francisco-based EV Realty which led engineering, procurement, and construction on the project, and will oversee the site’s ongoing maintenance and operations.
