Kempower supplies Plugit’s first public MCS charging station in Kotka, Finland, as part of a new sales and service partnership
Kempower and Plugit form partnership to provide fast EV charging stations for cars and trucks in Finland and the Nordic countries
As part of this collaboration, Plugit has commissioned its first public megawatt charging station for fast charging of trucks in Finland near the port of HaminaKotka – a milestone for the next generation of electric truck transport
Fifteen new locations are already in operation, with more to be added in Finland and Sweden during 2026.
Global DC fast charger manufacturer Kempower has partnered with Finnish e-mobility company Plugit to expand the charging infrastructure for electric cars and trucks in the Nordic countries. Under a sales and service partnership agreement signed in January 2026, Plugit will supply and operate turnkey charging solutions from the planning phase to the installation and operation of Kempower’s charging systems, both for its customers and for its own charging stations as a charging point operator.
As part of the partnership, a number of charging stations for cars and trucks will be commissioned in the coming years. In the first phase of the collaboration, 15 locations have already been commissioned in Finland. A highlight is the installation of Kempower’s first public megawatt charging station (MCS) in Finland near the port of HaminaKotka in Mussalo, Kotka. The focus of the new locations will expand to Sweden in 2026 to support logistics companies in the Nordic countries in electrifying their fleets.
Finland’s first public MCS-enabled site is intended for trucks travelling to and from the port of HaminaKotka. MCS technology is one of the latest developments in truck charging technology and, for the first time, enables charging speeds of up to 1.2 megawatts.
The charging station in Mussalo was initially equipped with a capacity of 1,800 kW in the form of three 600 kW Kempower power units, which supply power to four Kempower Mega Satellites CCS and one Kempower Mega Satellite MCS. Each Mega Satellite CCS can deliver ultra-fast charging power of up to 560 kW, and each Mega Satellite MCS can deliver up to 1.2 MW, making it Finland’s largest public truck charging station with the highest power per plug in the country. The station opened for trucks in December 2025.
Thanks to the ultra-fast infrastructure, e-truck drivers using the station in Kotka can now fully charge their vehicles within the legally required minimum break time of 45 minutes, allowing more long-distance journeys to be electrified.
Looking ahead, Kempower and Plugit plan to open another 15 to 20 locations in Finland, Sweden and even France, where another Plugit partner, charging station operator Bump, will offer Kempower’s fast charging solutions to its own customers.
In addition to introducing charging stations, Kempower and Plugit are collaborating on research and development initiatives focusing on a range of areas, including smart booking systems, energy management, truck guidance systems and pilot projects for charging hardware.
Erik Kanerva, Sales Director for Northern Europe at Kempower, said: “The partnership with Plugit helps us to provide reliable and robust fast charging stations on a large scale in the Nordic countries – something that is essential if we want to accelerate the transition and support the expansion of infrastructure. We are proud to have jointly realised the first public MCS truck charging station in Finland, an important milestone and symbol of the turning point we are at. While there have only been a handful of public charging stations for trucks in Finland to date, dozens more are planned for the coming years as we build a nationwide network capable of supporting the next generation of heavy-duty electric vehicles.”
René Graichen, Chief Operating Officer at Plugit, said:
‘We are delighted that our collaboration with Kempower has already resulted in 15 successful projects, enabling us to build momentum. The combination of Kempower’s technology and Plugit’s expertise in managing EV charging projects helps us to offer both high-quality services and solutions – essential foundations for a successful charging business and the electrification of cars and trucks.’
