Brand new UK charge point operator EVCP solutions launches first site in Merseyside shopping park powered by Kempower’s DC fast charging solutions

  • Kempower collaborates with brand new EV charging operator on its inaugural project, launching the EVCPs Charge & Go network
  • Existing chargers at the site will be replaced with Kempower’s fast charging system as EVCP solutions takes over operations
  • Kempower’s high-uptime chargers were selected to meet strict UK regulatory requirements for charge point reliability
  • The installation project saw Kempower surpass a major milestone in its UK business and helped EVCP solutions to secure its first industry award

The Finnish DC fast-charging manufacturer Kempower has partnered with a brand-new UK charging operator, EVCP solutions, to launch its first site. The project has seen four EV charge points installed at Southport’s Kew Retail Park in Merseyside, England, which are the first in the CPO’s charging network, Charge & Go, to go live.

Kempower has supplied EVCP solutions with a Kempower Power Unit and two Kempower DC Satellites, each with two CCS2 connectors, which service a total of four charging bays. Each charger can deliver up to 150 kW of power to the connected vehicle, facilitating a 20% to 80% charge in as little as 15 minutes while the customer shops.

Kempower’s chargers are distributed, meaning they can dynamically share the total available power depending on the charging needs of connected vehicles and optimise charging times, which keeps waiting times and queues at retail charge points to a minimum.

The project served as a major milestone for Kempower, as it officially surpassed 4,000 chargers installed in the UK following the installation, standing as a symbol of its growing presence in the UK charging industry. For EVCP solutions, which was recently named EV Startup of the Year at the EV Infrastructure & Energy Summit Awards (EVIEs), it was the first in what is set to be a string of projects that will build the EVCPs Charge & Go! network across the UK.

The coastal town of Southport has a population of just under 100,000 and attracts a further 9 million visitors per year, making ample reliable EV charging infrastructure crucial for allowing EV drivers to power their journeys.

Kew Retail Park is located just two miles from Southport’s town centre on the A570, a major route into the town, making the charge site convenient for both local shoppers and tourists travelling in or out.

Building EV charging infrastructure across the UK that meets the ever-growing demand is a huge undertaking, which is why it’s so exciting to see new charging operators like EVCP solutions entering the market. EVCP solutions’ first site in Southport will not only stake its claim as a UK charging provider, but will have a positive impact for local tourism and customer experience at Kew Retail Park,” said Rolle Nieminen, Head of UK & Ireland Sales at Kempower.

The new installations serve as an update to existing charge points at the retail park as EVCP solutions takes over the operations.

Graeme Patton, Head of EV Charging at EVCP solutions, said: “We’re exceptionally proud to say that our inaugural charge site is now live and that EVCP solutions is officially a UK charge point operator with our EVCPs Charge & Go brand. Partnering with Kempower meant we could do so with a trusted, experienced industry player in our corner, which made for a strong collaboration and successful project.

“UK regulations state that DC charge points must have at least 99% uptime and I know through previous experience that Kempower delivers infrastructure that’s robust and reliable enough to meet these requirements and more. We look forward to continuing our partnership as we build on this exciting first project with a number of new charging locations that are already in the pipeline.”
