Kempower Electrifies the National ACT Expo with Revolutionary Megawatt Charging Solution for Electric Trucks

Durham, NC – (Monday, May 20, 2024) Kempower a trailblazer in DC fast-charging solutions for electric vehicles, electrified the stage at the national ACT (Advanced Clean Transportation) show held in Las Vegas.

Amidst the glitz and glamour of the city, Kempower gave a sneak peek into its cutting-edge Megawatt Charging System (MCS) setting a new standard for innovation in the clean transportation industry. True to its commitment to the development of sustainable mobility for the planet, Kempower introduced its Megawatt Charging System, the company’s state-of-the-art electric truck charging solution designed for power ratings above 1 MW.

The annual ACT event, which brings together industry leaders, and stakeholders from across the nation, provided the perfect platform for Kempower to unveil its groundbreaking technologies to the North American market.

“We believe that the truck market is the next frontier in the DC fast-charging space; our MCS solutions fills the need to charge heavy trucks quickly and reliably,” said Tomi Ristimäki, CEO Kempower.

With Ristimäki and members of the Kempower leadership team present, the atmosphere was charged with anticipation as attendees gathered to witness the future of clean mobility.

“We believe that those of us who today develop the future of sustainable mobility in line with decarbonization goals will have competitive advantages in the EV charging space in the mid and long term. With MCS, we position ourselves as a leading player in the transition to heavy-duty electric mobility, which is beneficial for the environment and for the quality of life of drivers, who, by driving electric trucks, eliminate noise and vibration from their daily working lives. MCS is contributing to the challenges of tomorrow, today,” says Tomi Ristimäki, CEO of Kempower.

The highlight of Kempower’s presence at the event was undoubtedly the unveiling of its revolutionary Megawatt Charging System (MCS); a dedicated solution for electric truck charging that requires power levels above 1 MW.

Kempower MCS transforms heavy-duty transport, leading the change toward a cleaner, quieter and more peaceful world – and part of an ecosystem that is co-creating the future.

Key features:

  • Charging at +1,500 A and up to 1.2 MW of peak power
  • Featuring the Kempower Mega Satellite, with an MCS and high-power CCS
  • Transition to MCS: The current CCS2 power levels for heavy-duty vehicles need to be increased in the short term to enable the market transition toward full MCS adoption in the coming years.
  • Dual strategy: MCS and high-power CCS coexisting in the ecosystem is inevitable for OEMs and EV supply equipment manufacturers to drive the transition to zero-emission road transport.
  • Flexibility: Unused power from the MCS can be dynamically distributed among several high-power CCS2 outputs within the same system. This facilitates the market transition toward widespread MCS adaptation.

Key benefits

Proven technology

To ensure maximum compatibility, the first version of the Kempower Megawatt Charging System comes with a peak power of 1.2 MW, and a Kempower Mega Satellite. The solution is based on Kempower’s state-of-the-art technology.

Maximum flexibility

Kempower Mega Satellite can be connected with an MCS or high-power CCS1 in the same system, enabling dynamic power sharing between all outputs.

Customers with Kempower’s latest technology can upgrade their existing systems to MCS by combining two 600 kW Kempower Power Units.

“With MCS and our upcoming pipeline of solutions, we’re pushing the boundaries of what’s possible in clean mobility.  The possibilities are limitless, and we’re excited to continue leading the charge towards a cleaner, greener future,” said Ristimäki.

Jed Routh, VP of Markets and Products, North America Kempower added, “This year’s ACT event provided us with an incredible opportunity to engage with industry stakeholders, forge partnerships, and showcase our leadership in sustainable energy innovation. We’re grateful for the opportunity to connect with fellow visionaries and drive meaningful change together.”

As the curtains close on the national ACT show, Kempower’s electrifying presence continues to reverberate throughout the industry. With its innovative MCS and pipeline solutions coming to market in the near future, Kempower is paving the way towards a more sustainable future for all.
