Denver public schools, Winn-Marion deploy Kempower solutions for growing electric bus fleet

The new charging infrastructure supports 28 electric school buses serving Colorado’s largest school district

Kempower, a leading provider of DC fast-charging solutions for electric vehicles, is supporting Denver Public Schools’ growing electric school bus fleet with new charging infrastructure at the district’s Hilltop Bus Terminal. The project was led by industrial automation and electrical solutions provider Winn-Marion, with Kempower serving as the hardware supplier and technology partner.

The district recently added 25 Blue Bird Vision electric school buses, bringing its fleet to 28. According to the district, it is now the largest electric school bus fleet in Colorado. The new charging infrastructure is ready for the start of the new school year, which begins Aug. 24.

“Electrifying a school bus fleet requires charging infrastructure that works around the realities of daily transportation schedules,” said Kempower North America President Monil Malhotra. “Kempower technology keeps electric school buses charged, ready, and on the road, helping Denver Public Schools deliver reliable, cleaner transportation for students every day.”

The terminal features a Kempower distributed charging system with 650 kilowatts of total power and 13 dual-port Kempower Satellite dispensers, providing 26 plugs for charging. The system dynamically distributes available power across multiple vehicles, helping keep buses charged and ready for daily routes.

“We couldn’t be more pleased with the entire team’s performance on this significant project,” said Jim Hussey, Electrification Solutions Specialist at Winn-Marion Companies. “Denver Public Schools is a smart, organized group, Kempower has been highly supportive from day one, and PowerFlex (formerly The Mobility House) has proven to be an outstanding partner in the Smart Charging and Energy Management space. We look forward to the opportunity to support other school districts throughout the Rocky Mountain region over the coming years.”

To date, Kempower solutions are powering electric school bus charging depots in Denver, Quebec, Louisiana, Kansas, Massachusetts, Indiana, and Wisconsin.
