Kempower announces 99% end of lifetime recyclability rate for its DC charger, commits to carbon neutrality by 2035

  • To achieve carbon neutrality within the next 15 years, Kempower will stop using fossil fuel electricity and produce zero landfill waste by 2025.
  • Kempower has set an ambitious target of reaching a 99% end of lifetime recyclability rate for all its products, with its T-Series charger already achieving a recyclability rate of 99.61%.
  • The company has also recognized six of the UN Sustainable Development Goals that will enable the most positive change to its operations.

Kempower, the leading rapid EV charging technology provider, has released its first-ever sustainability statement featuring three headline commitments. The pledges include reaching total carbon neutrality by 2035.

Kempower designs and manufactures DC fast charging solutions for electric vehicles and machines. The company’s product development and production are rooted in Finland, with many of its materials and components sourced locally.

To achieve carbon neutrality by 2035, Kempower will transfer to 100% emission-free electricity and commit to stop sending waste to landfill by 2025. The company will also decrease its carbon footprint annually and offset any carbon generated due to business travel.

Kempower has also committed to producing responsible products, including setting an impressive target of attaining a 99% recyclability rate for all of its EV chargers at the end of their lifetime. These assessments have already begun, with a recent analysis of the company’s Kempower movable EV charger by Kuusakoski, the leading provider of industrial recycling services, finding the product’s recycling rate to be 99.61%.

Launching our first-ever sustainability statement expresses our commitment to reduce the negative impacts of our operations, be as transparent as possible and become a leader in cleantech. This means ensuring that sustainability is embedded through both our technology and company culture. We run a responsible business, and while our technology is built to last, we must consider the entire lifecycle of our products.

The third commitment in Kempower’s sustainability statement is to offer the best possible workplace for future professionals. Long-term goals for this target include collaborating with academia and researchers and working closely with technology-focused universities and polytechnics to attract the best new talent. The company will also aim to reduce accidents to zero by giving a safety score per million work hours each month. Additionally, Kempower will provide all employees with first aid training to minimize the prospect of serious harm caused by accidents or medical emergencies.

To help reach the goals of its sustainability statement, Kempower has identified six UN Sustainable Development Goals that it will embed in its processes to make the biggest positive impact on its operations. These goals are:

  • Goal 3: Good Health and Wellbeing
  • Goal 4: Quality Education
  • Goal 7: Affordable and Green Energy
  • Goal 11: Sustainable Cities and Communities
  • Goal 12: Responsible Consumption and Production
  • Goal 13: Climate Action

Tomi Ristimäki added:

More people are constantly on the move in today’s society. However, we believe that this increased mobility shouldn’t compromise the wellbeing of our planet or its people. We envisage a society powered by fully electric transportation, making the world cleaner and more sustainable. We want to create an EV charging infrastructure that is both extensive and reliable, allowing EVs to become the norm.
