Kempower opens new research unit at LUT campus in Lappeenranta, Finland, to strengthen research and development in the field of electromobility

Kempower, a global leader in DC fast charging solutions, has established a new research unit on the campus of LUT University in Lappeenranta, Finland. The goal of the Kempower team in Lappeenranta is to strengthen research and development in the field of EV charging technology and the future of electric mobility through the Electric Mobility Research Centre (EMRC), which was founded in 2023.

Six researchers currently work in the EMRC team in Lappeenranta, together with two researchers from Kempower. Additional researchers will be hired for ongoing projects such as HETE (Heavy Electric Traffic Ecosystem Program) and Future Aviation. In addition, the location on the LUT University campus in Lappeenranta offers opportunities for doctoral students, thesis students and interns.

“Collaboration between industry and academia accelerates the translation of groundbreaking research into scalable solutions for practical application. The partnership between Kempower and LUT University to establish and expand the Electric Mobility Research Centre plays a key role in accelerating the transition to electric mobility. We are delighted to take this partnership to the next level by establishing a new research unit on the Lappeenranta campus,” said Bhasker Kaushal, CEO of Kempower.

‘Our most important task is, no more and no less, to save the world. In this work, we need outstanding companies like Kempower at our side,’ said Juha-Matti Saksa, Rector of LUT University. ‘At LUT, we solve global challenges through science and education, providing companies with the expertise of top professionals and the skills and potential of our students to support their success.’

“Kempower and LUT University have been partners since 2023, when we established the Electric Mobility Research Centre (EMRC). The LUT campus is an excellent location for bringing our researchers in Lappeenranta together around one table. This will also strengthen the regional technology ecosystem and research collaboration between Lappeenranta and Lahti, where the EMRC operates as a central part of the Green Electrification of Mobility Cluster,” says Research Director and EMRC Head Ville Naumanen.

LUT University is part of Kempower’s international university network, alongside the University of Tampere in Finland, the FREEDM Systems Center at NC State in the USA and the Technical University of Denmark.
