What drives the need for the Mega Flex Satellite?

Coexistence is expected
MCS and CCS will operate in parallel throughout the transition period.

No standardized CCS inlet placement
Vehicles may have CCS ports on either side, adding complexity to site design.

Challenges for CPOs
Risk of low site utilization during the transition
Uncertainty around the pace of MCS adoption and scaling

What’s needed: flexibility
Charging lanes that support both MCS and CCS—serving trucks, vans, and passenger vehicles without compromise.

Use case: Truck charging in San Bernardino, US

EV Realty has launched a major multi-fleet truck charging hub in San Bernardino, California, powered by Kempower’s high-power DC charging solutions.

The site features:

  • 74 Kempower Satellites and 2 Kempower Mega Satellites
  • Up to 9 MW total site capacity, including 1.2 MW MCS and 500 kW CCS charging
  • A scalable design capable of serving 200+ medium- and heavy-duty trucks daily

Strategically located along a key freight corridor, the hub expands access to reliable, high-power charging and supports the large-scale electrification of heavy-duty transport across North America.

Use case: Alfredsson truck depot, Sweden

Kempower has successfully demonstrated megawatt-level charging using the official Megawatt Charging System (MCS) standard at Alfredsson Transport’s advanced truck depot in Sweden.

This milestone deployment includes:

  • At this depot you can charge of two electric trucks using both MCS and CCS
  • Kempower’s distributed charging system connected to a 1.2 MW power unit
  • Integration with grid power, battery energy storage, and on-site solar energy

This successful demonstration shows how MCS-compliant infrastructure can deliver fast, reliable charging for electric long-haul trucks within drivers’ mandatory break times—accelerating the transition to zero-emission heavy-duty transport.

FAQ

What is Kempower Mega Satellite Flex and how is it different from other Kempower Satellite products?

Kempower Mega Satellite Flex is Kempower’s newest high‑power charging solution and the company’s first satellite to support both CCS and MCS charging in a single unit. It enables operators to charge a wider range of vehicles while transitioning to megawatt charging, helping keep sites highly utilized and improving return on investment from day one.

Is Mega Satellite Flex only relevant for truck charging and truck depots?

No. While designed for heavy‑duty charging, Mega Satellite Flex also supports multimodal charging sites. In addition to trucks, it is compatible with new 800 V electric cars and vans that require rapid high‑power charging, making it suitable for mixed‑use locations.

Can Mega Satellite Flex be combined with other Kempower charging products?

Yes. Mega Satellite Flex can be easily connected to both existing and new Kempower Satellite charging systems, allowing it to be combined with other Kempower Satellite products within the same charging infrastructure.
