Meaning:
A condition where the voltage in an electric circuit exceeds the normal level, potentially causing damage to electrical components. Overvoltage occurs when the voltage goes beyond the design limit of a circuit or circuit element. Depending on its duration, the overvoltage event can be transient, such as a voltage spike, or permanent.
