Kempower delivers its DC fast-charging solutions to one of the largest EV charging hubs in Malaysia, operated by DC Handal

Johor, Malaysia – Leading DC fast-charging solutions provider, Kempower, is expanding its footprint in Southeast Asia. The company has already deliv-ered multiple public charging systems to DC Handal in Malaysia. At the end of March 2025, one of the largest charging hubs operated by DC Handal will open at the Mall of Medini in Johor, Malaysia. This charging hub will cater to both passenger and commercial EVs including buses and trucks.

The total charging capacity of the Mall of Medini EV charging hub is 1.2MW with 28 single-output Kempower Satellites. Each satellite can deliver up to 240kW of power. The Kempower Satellite charging system, comprising of Kempower Power Units and Kempower Satellites, will automatically and dy-namically distribute power to each charge point. This enables the site’s power supply to be used optimally.

“Handal Green Mobility proudly launches Malaysia’s first commercial EV Hub, featuring 28 DC fast-charging nozzles powered by the grid, solar, and bat-tery energy storage. Designed to serve both public and fleet vehicles, this hub marks a major step toward a greener, more accessible EV future,” says Esa Fawsal Salleh, Chief Technology Officer from DC Handal.

The charging hub is powered by the grid and a rooftop solar PV system with a capacity of 370kW. The average solar energy daily production is expected to be 1.1 to 1.2 MWh, which is equivalent to charging 20 passenger EVs.

In the next phase, a Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS) will be added for peak shaving and renewable energy storage applications. This means when the EV charging power demand exceeds the total available power from the grid and solar PV, the BESS will discharge to cater to the excess charging demand. The other way around, when there is excess solar energy produc-tion during periods of low charging demand, the BESS will be charged up

“We are honored to be given this opportunity to work with DC Handal on this project. The site serves as a blueprint for sustainable EV charging hubs in SE Asia. As more vehicles including heavy duty ones start to electrify, charging hubs must evolve to cater to a variety of charging requirements. Solar PV and BESS will also become an integral part of fast charging hubs as grid up-grades take a much longer time to implement. The zero-emission aspect is an added bonus,” said Carlo Cecchi, Director, New Markets, Kempower.
