Kempower and Wennstrom deliver EV charging technology to Norway’s first public charging site dedicated to trucks, operated by Fastcharge

  • Kempower has partnered with Wennstrom to support the launch of Norway-based Fastcharge’s first public charging site for electric trucks in Oslo, Norway.
  • The site represents Norway’s first public charging site dedicated exclusively to electric trucks, marking a significant milestone in the Norwegian truck segment’s transition to e-mobility.
  • The charging site will offer up to 400kW of power per chargepoint.
  • This project marks the first in Fastcharge’s series of Norwegian truck charging sites to be delivered by Kempower and Wennstrom.

Oslo, Norway – Kempower has partnered with Wennstrom to deliver DC fast-charging solutions for electric trucks to Fastcharge, one of Norway’s leading charge point operators for heavy vehicles. The new site located in Oslo represents the first public charging site dedicated exclusively for trucks in Norway. In the future it will also be able to power new MCS-compatible electric trucks, marking a significant milestone in Europe’s transition to an electrified truck segment. Wennstrom, the smart e-mobility solutions provider, acts as the sales and services partner for the project.

Road transportation in Norway accounts for 17% of all the country’s greenhouse gas emissions, prompting the government’s target for all new trucks sold in the country to be electric by 2030. To power these electric trucks, the country needs extensive fast-charging infrastructure. While Norway is already home to truck charging points at depots, the Oslo site is Norway’s first public charging site designed exclusively for trucks.

This project marks the first in Fastcharge’s series of public truck charging sites in Norway to be delivered by Kempower and Wennstrom. Fastcharge plans to open in total four public charging sites for trucks before the end of the year. The first charging site in Alnabru, Oslo, opened on 25 July will be followed by five further charging sites in the municipalities of Ringsaker, Sandefjord, Gjesdal, Bergen and Malvik.

Trucks at the site are powered by the Kempower Power Unit, the company’s rack-style, modularly scalable converter cabinet solution capable of delivering up to 600kW of total charging power. Multiple units connect to six to eight Kempower Liquid Cooled Satellites. Thanks to the Kempower charging system’s modular design, the Kempower Power Unit is also compatible with Kempower’s Megawatt Charging System (MCS), enabling the site to power new MCS-compatible electric trucks in the near future.

The site’s Kempower charging solutions are all connected to the Fastcharge app. This simplifies the user experience for truck drivers by allowing drivers to book space ahead of arrival. By registering vehicles to corporate accounts, payments are made seamlessly through electronic invoicing. Fastcharge will also act as the first point of call for services and maintenance at the site, to ensure a smooth charging experience.

“This pioneering truck charging project with Fastcharge and Wennstrom is a great step forward for the electrification of transport in Norway. Offering public, on-the-move charging for trucks that is reliable, scalable, and user-friendly is critical for the adoption of electrical trucks. We look forward to building many more truck charging stations together,” commented Erik Kanerva, Sales Director of Northern Europe at Kempower.

“We aim to be the natural choice for transportation companies by offering a premium service, and at the same time facilitating the transition to electrification of the transportation fleet with reduced total cost of ownership,” added Harald Grytten, CEO at Fastcharge.

Wennstrom’s Head of Sales, Joakim Opsahl, said: “I am thrilled to witness this powerful collaboration between Fastcharge, Kempower, and Wennstrom, which is driving the electrification of transportation in Norway. Our commitment and dedication to creating reliable, scalable and user-friendly truck charging stations reflects our shared vision for sustainable transportation. Together, we pave the way toward a greener future.”
