Rhein-Mosel-Eifel Waste Management Association Electrifies Fleet with EEBC and Kempower in Germany

  • Waste management fleet electrification with Kempower’s advanced fast-charging solutions in Germany
  • Sustainable and efficient charging infrastructure for reduced CO₂ emissions and optimized operations

The Rhein-Mosel-Eifel Waste Management Association (Abfallzweckverband; AZV) is committed to e-mobility and has implemented a modern charging infrastructure to support its sustainable fleet consisting of 10 Volvo FE Electric refuse collection vehicles from Volvo Trucks Germany. By utilizing Kempower’s innovative fast-charging technology, the AZV has established an efficient and future-proof solution to reduce CO₂ emissions and enhance operational efficiency  in Ochtendung near Koblenz, in Rhineland-Palatinate where AZV is located.

Successful Implementation and Advantages of Kempower Technology
Following a Europe-wide tender process, European Electrical Bus Company (EEBC) was awarded the contract for the supply and installation of Kempower charging stations in Ochtendung near Koblenz. The successful commissioning now enables the operation of ten Volvo FE Electric refuse collection vehicles, laying the foundation for the step-by-step electrification of the more vehicles.

“The implementation of the charging infrastructure with Kempower technology is a crucial step in our strategy for sustainable mobility. This not only reduces our CO₂ emissions but also improves the efficiency of our fleet,” says Thomas Neckenig, Deputy Managing Director of AZV Rhein-Mosel-Eifel.

Kempower’s fast-charging solutions offer flexible and demand-based power distribution. Thanks to intelligent DC connectivity, individual charging points are linked to a central power unit, allowing optimal allocation of charging power based on priority. Additionally, Kempower’s high component availability ensures minimal downtime and maximum operational reliability.

“This project demonstrates how powerful and flexible fast-charging technology supports the transition to more sustainable mobility. We are delighted to support AZV Rhein-Mosel-Eifel on their journey to fleet electrification with our innovative Kempower solution,” says Philipp Oppolzer, Regional Business Development Director Central Europe at Kempower.

The electrification of refuse collection vehicles is a key component of the sustainable transformation of the waste management industry. By combining state-of-the-art charging technology with a strategic electrification approach, AZV is paving the way for a climate-friendly and emissions-free future starting with ten vehicles.
