Kempower powers one of Belgium’s first full-service EV fast-charging networks with Storm and Q8

Leading EV fast-charging solutions provider, Kempower, will deliver its charging solutions to the Belgian renewable energy company Storm. Storm and Q8 will together launch Belgium’s pioneering full-service EV fast-charging network. The partnership aims to establish up to 200 fast-charging stations at strategic locations in the next 5 years, revolutionizing the EV driving experience in Belgium.

Under this groundbreaking initiative, Kempower will deliver its charging solutions to the first fast-charging stations of Storm and Q8 in Belgium. The new fast-charging stations, integrated with shops and restaurants, will redefine convenience and accessibility for EV users. The roll-out will take place starting from the summer of 2024. The first 4 locations are planned to open by the middle of July in Beringen, Aalter, Waasmunster and Kampenhout.

The new charging hubs will offer up to 400 kW of power per hub. The delivered Kempower solutions include Power Units and Satellites (both CCS2 and CHAdeMO). In addition to electric passenger cars, these stations will accommodate electric light trucks and vans. Payment can be settled using all current charging cards, with the Q8 electric app, and with any debit or credit card. In addition, each charger will be accessible to people with disabilities.

“This new full-service charging network is a major step in the development of the charging infrastructure in Belgium and supports the electrification of the country’s transportation,” says Tommi Liuska, Chief Sales Officer, Kempower. “By delivering our reliable and user-friendly fast charging solutions to Storm and Q8, we are helping to shape a future where charging infrastructure is seamlessly connected to the everyday lives and needs of EV drivers.”

Storm in brief

Storm is a Belgian developer, owner and operator of renewable energy projects. It is committed to accelerating the energy transition at the lowest possible cost to society. Headquartered in Antwerp, Storm currently operates 56 wind turbines in Belgium. These   wind turbines produce enough renewable energy to supply the annual electricity consumption of around 140,000 households. In addition to the realization of new wind turbines, we are planning several large-scale battery storage projects, and a fast-charging network in partnership with Q8.

Q8 in brief

Q8 is one of the largest fuel players in the Belgian market with over 465 service stations and a network of over 120 local ‘Shop & Go’ convenience stores in Belgium, together with Delhaize and Panos. With HVO100, CNG, LNG and Q8 electric, Q8 also demonstrates a strong commitment to more sustainable mobility.  Since the launch of Q8 electric three years ago, Q8 has rapidly expanded its charging network. The Q8 charge card and app give access to 350,000 charging points in Europe and almost all charging points in the Benelux. At the moment, Q8 has also fitted 46 stations with fast chargers in the Benelux and will soon open its 4 first full fast-charging stations in Belgium with Storm. In total there will be up to more than 500 fast charger locations in the next five years. Thus, Q8 continues to build hard on its transformation into a sustainable mobility player.
