Kempower provides charging infrastructure to Recharge’s public charging site in Sweden for the first time – plan to open more hubs as part of a strategic cooperation

Kempower is glad to announce the opening of the first public EV charging station in Sweden for Recharge, equipped with Kempower’s DC fast charging infrastructure. Operated by Recharge, a pioneer in the EV industry, the charging station is located at the Laxbutiken seafood restaurant in Ljungskile, a town approximately 65km north of Gothenburg.

Fitted with a Kempower Power Unit with 600 kW installed capacity and eight Kempower Satellites, the charging station allows for dynamic charging of vehicles, optimizing both the EV drivers’ charging experience and grid capacity.

Recharge is using its extensive experience in the Norwegian market to enable Swedish EV drivers to charge their cars quickly and easily. A key challenge in accelerating the roll-out of the chargers is grid capacity, especially as Recharge had to double the charging station capacity from four to eight satellites even before it officially opened due to customer demand.

Dynamic charging is particularly important in Sweden, where the limited capacity of electric connections to the grid is one of the biggest challenges to the success of electrification of transport. Our products offer a key solution to that challenge, providing benefits to the grid as well as EV drivers. We’re looking forward to rolling out more charging hubs in Sweden.

Tomi Ristimäki, CEO of Kempower

More than one in four cars sold in Sweden are now electric. To further accelerate the transition, the charging infrastructure needs to be expanded much faster than at present. We are installing over 1000 fast chargers in Sweden, and this charging hub in Ljungskile is the first where we are using Kempower’s dynamic system.

Our charging point at Laxbutiken is a good example of how to build a trustful and constructive collaboration with a grid operator. Uddevalla Energi, the local operator, delivered capacity six months earlier than expected. Together with Kempower, we’re able to offer the greatest convenience to EV drivers, as they can enjoy the picturesque site and great food while charging their car.

Maria Brant, Head of Recharge Sweden

Kempower and Recharge plan to open more charging hubs in Sweden as part of a strategic cooperation. Since the opening of the charging station in Ljungskile, other charging sites have also been energized, including Mjölby, Karlstad and Visby.
